CAMBIN -CNERS Workshop in Niger

Context

The overall goal of the SNECFA project is to strengthen the Capacity of four National Ethics Committees (NECs) in Francophone West and Central Africa namely, Cameroon, Chad, Mali, and Niger, with special focus on drafting Standard Operating Procedures for the review of research protocols during routine and emergency situations through providing customized training programs tailored to the needs of each country as well as providing them with support for registration or renewal of their FWA numbers. Also, the project has as objective to support the 4 NECs in writing or revising their SOPs for the review of research protocols during routine and emergency situations. Furthermore, the project seeks to develop or update TRREE national supplements for the four countries as well as disseminate the SOPs and TRREE national supplements through proactive communication programs. Moreover, the project aims to facilitate knowledge sharing and exchange between NECs in the region and or Democratic Republic of Congo that have a unique experience to share related to protocol review during the 2014 and current Ebola outbreak respectively.

Objective of the Workshop

The aim of this third workshop was to strengthen the capacity of members of the National Ethics Committee of Niger (CNERS) in the domain of Health Research Ethics (HRE). This workshop also sought to raise national awareness among stakeholders in the health and research sectors about the SNECFA project.

   Format of the Workshop

The discussions and training for each of the three days were focused on a specific theme as follows.

Day One: Health Research Ethics in Niger

Day Two: Ethics Evaluation, Public Health Emergencies and Vulnerability.

Day Three: Enhancing the Visibility of National Ethics Committees.
